Songs of Hope

Whenever I have faced hard times in my life, music has been one of the best therapies. Usually this has meant hours spent at the piano or keyboard, but right now I don't have the luxury of the time or the instrument at the hospital. Instead I have an iPod with music that Timmy and I can listen to together. So I thought I would share my list of songs that are really speaking hope to my heart right now. Do you have other songs that you could add to the list? I would love to know what they are.

Here is my list of hope songs (in no particular order):

  • "C. S. Lewis Song" by Brooke Fraser
  • "Faithful" by Brooke Fraser
  • "Be Still" by Storyside B
  • "Gratitude" by Nichole Nordeman
  • "Holy" by Nichole Nordeman
  • "Held" by Natalie Grant (I am really addicted to this one but it makes me cry almost every time - way more than any of the others.)
  • "Be Strong" by Asante

I don't know who it is by, but it's on the radio often..."I'll praise you in the Storm."

Also, "I Can Only Imagine."

And the song I most often sing when I'm holding Timmy is an old one from my Sunday School...."Do Lord." Lyrics- "I've got a home in glory land that outshines the sun." And, "Do Lord, Oh, Do Remember Me." Timmy does seem to enjoy music very much...even my less-than-perfect singing!

Praying for a peaceful day,

Julie Ross

Music for me too is one of the only things that can calm my soul. I have found much comfort in listening to the old hymns: "It is well with my soul", "How great thou art", "Amazing Grace", but i too have found comfort in songs by Casting Crowns, who sing that song "Praise you in the storm". i pray things are stable with little Timmy. Thank you for sharing this blog with me - it's wonderful to catch up on Timmy.
You and your family are in my prayers and thoughts daily.

The entire album "Blink" by Plumb is absolutely beautiful. She wrote the entire album while pregnant with her 2nd child, but includes some classics like "God Will Take Care of You" and "Children of the Heavenly Father."

I thing my favorite new song is How Deep the Father's Love for Us, it makes me cry so much that just thinking about it makes me cry. Yikes I had to just go get a kleenex. Be Still My Soul is probably one of my fav old songs, it's very rich. Day by Day was Granny's fav song, there are a few versions of this, The Svenska/Danska one is the one I'm refering to: Day by Day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here, trusting in my father's wise bestowment, I've no cause for worry or for fear, He whose heart is kind beyond all measure, gives unto each day as he deems best, Lovingly it's part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest. Uncle Paul can sing this song in Svenksa but I can't.

Lara and Marshall,
We have appreciated getting your blogs and up to date reports on Timmy. Of course, we are in prayer for him and for you as well.
We know how much you depend on God and each other as well as family.
We also like to see the current pictures of Timmy.

Grandpa Sawyer is scheduled for surgery Tuesday at St. Vincent Hospital near Portland. It is hard for me to talk of myself as
Grandpa but I am.
Our love, best wishes and prayers for you always.
Grandpa and Grandma Sawyer in Portland. Oregon.

Good for you, Lara, for feeding your soul with music that focuses your heart on the Lord...and on the assured hope that is ours/yours/Timmy's.

You've gotten lots of great song suggestions here. Also, if you're able to download Gary's messages onto your iPOD, this Sunday's on Psalm 42-43 (on discouragement) is wonderful. Love you, Donna S.

my suggestions have already been taken, but I will mention them anyway: the entire album "blink" by plumb truly is fantastic...and yes, it is all "lullaby-like" songs to her child. beautiful. and mom mentioned He's my Son by Mark Schultz, which is painful to listen to, it made me cry even before this whole diagnosis. I also like to think of Mary singing it about Jesus.
Those are wonderful songs for children. The ones that mean the most to ME spiritually (bring me to tears because of my love and adoration for our heavenly Father) are the songs from the Press On CD by Selah. Really ANY CD by Selah is wonderful. There are a couple awesome ones on the duets CD. I am bringing it with me to California, and if you want a copy, I will make you one! :)
Love and prayers...
